Not every human resources department is created equal. Have you begun to notice signs that concern you? Are you dissatisfied with the work that you’re doing? Do you have issues with the company policies? Whatever your reason for feeling restless, the worst thing you can do is ignore it. Here are a few red flags to look for to confirm your need to change jobs.

  1. Rapid loss of business.
Business is a cycle and it is normal to have ups and downs throughout each year or over the course of several years. However, patterns of consistent loss are not a good sign. As a member of the HR team, it may even be your job to deliver the bad news about job cuts to good employees, which can take a toll. It might be time to look for someone more stable.
  2. You constantly butt heads with your boss.
Without respect, you don’t have a strong working relationship. Whether it is because they don’t respect you or you don’t respect them, there isn’t a very good way to repair that relationship. Since they are your boss, their word is final — so even if you honestly believe your position is correct, it is a battle that can’t be won.
  3. You’re simply unhappy.
There are limitless reasons for getting into human resources. If you are dreading going in to work every day, that probably means there is something quite wrong. Do you come home unhappy more often than not? Dissatisfaction can affect your mood and your stress levels, which ultimately impact your health. It may be time to make a serious change.
  4. You no longer feel challenged.
A company that won’t give you room to grow is not a good place to have a long-term career, unless your satisfied doing the same things over and over again. Most people want growth and development. If you feel like you’ve reached a limit in your company, it may be time to try to find a better fit for your career goals.
