Every organization is thinking about the ways in which they can provide a wellness program for their team. Big or small, your company does have something to offer. But how do you know which options work best for your specific organization?

Wellness programs can offer your team a chance to make healthier lifestyle choices, increase physical exercise, and have the emotional support they need to get through stressful times. Before you make any decisions on what to offer your employees, consider some of the options and how they fit into your corporate culture.

Ensure it’s consistent with your company brand.

Your company brand is an important part of your employee experience. Your wellness program should be consistent with this idea rather than seemingly random. For example, if your company is all about giving back to the community you can include volunteering as one avenue to encourage physical and mental wellbeing.

Consider the holistic health aspect to include physical and mental.

Speaking of, it’s important to note that wellness should be about the whole person. If you’re paying for a gym membership but not providing tools to reduce stress, your team may not be as engaged as they could be. Make sure you’re giving equal focus on both aspects as the mental wellbeing is as important as physical health.

What is the end goal of your wellness program?

What do you want to accomplish by having a wellness program? Many organizations establish one because they get a discount on their group insurance. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it may be helpful to have other goals in mind. For instance, you may want to see how offering these programs helps with job satisfaction and retention.

Take the needs of your diverse workforce into account.

Remember, there is never a one-size-fits-all solution for your team. There will be different health concerns and needs as well as different interest and engagement levels. Make sure you’re not bullying anyone on your team to participate, but don’t block access to activities either. If you’re mindful of the needs of your entire staff, the program will be much more successful.
