Customer service jobs can be very rewarding if you’re in the right environment. But what happens if you’re in the wrong environment? Do you experience the anger of your management team? Do they take issues out on their customer service representatives through yelling or other abusive behaviors? If so, it’s an unhealthy environment and now is the time to find your next customer service position.

How do you find your next CSR job? Here are a few things you can do today before you quit this one.

Access Social Media

You’re already on social media, and companies are, too. Follow customer service companies in your area where you might like to work so you can see when they post jobs online.

You should also make sure your private network knows you’re looking for a new job. If you’re currently employed, it’s understandable you don’t want to make a public declaration on Twitter or Instagram, but you can reach out to a few trusted people outside of your current company. Message a few individuals to let them know you’re looking.

Update Your Resume

It’s always a good idea to have a fresh resume ready. Update it with your current accomplishments and the things you’ve done on this position that stand out. If you dislike your boss or company, it might be hard to determine what these are, but there are always ways you can discuss your contribution in a positive way.

Once you’ve updated your resume, have it available on your phone so you can quickly send it to new job openings if you come across something online.

Create Alerts

Most companies offer a mailing list so you can sign up for alerts to know when a new job is posted to their site. If you see it right away, you can apply quickly. You can also sign up for alerts from the job boards, which will often have local customer service positions listed.

Google alerts can also give you quick access to new information. Just set an alert for “customer service job” in your city and you’ll get a message whenever something new is posted. Sometimes they are junk, but it’s still worth it for the occasional gem.

Apply With a Staffing Agency

Finding a job can be a full-time job by itself, so it can feel frustrating on top of dealing with an already frustrating boss. This is why getting outside help can give you an advantage. A local staffing agency that specializes in customer service positions will be able to work with you find a new opportunity in a better environment.
