Talk to your manager about your long-term goals and how you feel that advancement within your current company can give you that opportunity. Make sure you position your personal goals within the context of the business so your employer can picture how you can be a part of their vision, as well.
Position Yourself as a Solution
In many cases, when you discuss moving up at work, make sure you’re positioning yourself as a solution to a problem. Your manager may already be concerned about hiring new people for this role, so you can be the answer to their questions. It is also easier for them to hire someone to take over for your current role than to train someone to learn the entire company culture for this advanced position.
Demonstrate Your Qualifications
Throughout it all, you need to be sure to demonstrate your qualifications for the position.
