If you’re being honest with yourself, what did your 2015 look like in terms of your career? Could you have done better? Did you make any significant accomplishments? What drove you this year? How can your lessons from this year carry you into the next? Before you ring in 2016, let’s take a closer look at this year and what you can do today to end on a positive note with a new career outlook.

  1. Get a fresh look. With all the holiday sales and the potential for making a holiday gift list, why not use this time to invest in new wardrobe pieces. Choose classic, professional outfits.
  2. Stay accountable. Don’t give up just because you’d rather watch campy TV specials and eat cookies. Look at your goals every day and stay active.
  3. Increase your health goals. The New Year often goes hand in hand with resolutions. Make this the year you really reach your healthy goals. The better you feel, the more positive you’ll be.
  4. Research salaries. Have you looked the value you bring to a company lately? Before you next interview or review, look at Salary.com to see what you should be making in your area.
  5. Volunteer in your community. Organizations throughout your area always need help this time of year. Volunteering can make you feel better, boost your resume, and allow you to network.
  6. Stay positive. Whatever happened in 2015, don’t let it affect you in a negative way. Put the bad experiences behind you and stay positive for 2016.
  7. Better communication. Remember, you don’t get what you want unless you’re willing to ask for it. Learn to be more outspoken about your needs for the coming year.
  8. Get organized. The end of the year is the perfect time to ditch all the old clutter that has been building up and reorganize your space, and your life.
  9. Learn from mistakes. Failure isn’t the end of the road. Some of the most successful people in the world view their failures as the catalyst for success. Take time to learn from your mistakes.
  10. Know when to disconnect. Lastly, don’t allow yourself to get so caught up in work that you forget to balance out your life at home. Turn off the phone and spend time with your family and friends.
